Latest Updates from Our Project:

Some of the comics have arrived! + Locking Addresses
6 months ago – Thu, May 23, 2024 at 05:47:14 PM

Hello! Today one box of the shipment of comics somehow made it to my home early. The rest are scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I took some pics:

The quality is great, the foiling looks great. I'm very happy with these comics.

I've set addresses to lock on the Backerkit survey this morning, so you probably have about a day and a half to change your address if you need to. Then I'll start shipping out books! Can't wait to get everyone their books asap.

Kay is already halfway done with issue 2, so we will be launching in about a month, after everyone has been sent their rewards. Issue 2 is awesome, and I can't wait for you to see it.

In the meantime, I have another comic book on Kickstarter...

Modern Mythology Presents: Medusa #1 is a 40-page action adventure comic that feels like the classic myth mashed up with Tomb Raider and Kill Bill. I think it's a ton of fun, and I hope you'll check it out.

That's it for now! I look forward to getting you your comics. Please let me know if you have any questions at all.

All surveys out!
7 months ago – Tue, Apr 23, 2024 at 11:30:26 AM

Great news! There didn't appear to be any issues on the surveys, so I just sent out the rest of the surveys now.

I also just got the final quote back from the printer, and I'm sending the books to print today. Hopefully this one should have a quick turnaround (doesn't always happen, but the stars seemed to have aligned for this one - knock on wood).

One more shoutout, because my very good friend and frequent collaborator Allen Dunford has a fantasy western book that just launched on Kickstarter:

The Herald

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/allenandwill/the-herald-1-a-supernatural-western

This is a book that Allen and Ruben Mocho have been working on for a while. I've read the first issue and it is awesome. This is a really stunning supernatural horror western, and I can't recommend it highly enough. It is also lettered by Dragon Grit letterer Dave Lentz, so you know it's good!

From the Kickstarter:

"The Herald follows the journey of a bounty hunter wandering through time on an eternal quest. He will stop at nothing to retrieve what was stolen from the one who is pulling the strings. Enjoy this fast-paced, 25-page supernatural western!"

Just like Dragon Grit, The Herald is 100% done, and ready to go to print. Allen is a reliable creator and has delivered many books to backers successfully. There is a long preview on the Kickstarter page if you'd like to check it out.

Thanks everyone!

Smoke Test has gone out!
7 months ago – Mon, Apr 22, 2024 at 11:22:26 AM

Hello. I just got the Backerkit survey approved, so I've sent out the Smoke Test. About 5% of you will get the survey. Please go ahead and fill it out, and let me know if there are any problems!

Later today I'll send out the surveys to everyone else, assuming there are no issues. I'll also be distributing the digital file of Dragon Grit #1 through the survey as soon as I send out the rest of the surveys. Once I do that, you'll have access to the digital file as soon as you fill out the survey and submit it.

I have had some technical issues on the last couple of Backerkit surveys. I'm learning as I go, and hopefully none of the same issues will pop up, but please let me know if they do! One issue that happened on the last survey was people being charged shipping on digital-only orders. If that happens let me know and I'll get it fixed asap!

Backerkit coming soon - digital comic ready
7 months ago – Tue, Apr 16, 2024 at 08:02:39 PM

Hello! I'm expecting the money from this Kickstarter to arrive in about a week, at which point I'll be putting in the print order for the books.

A few exciting pieces of news:
- The first issue is 100% done, and everyone will get the digital files as soon as they fill out their Backerkit surveys.
- The Backerkit survey is complete (I did it ahead of time this time, very proud of myself haha), and I can send it out as soon as the KS money clears. You should be getting an email with a link to complete your survey in just over a week.
- Kay has started work in earnest on the second issue. The cover is finished, and she's hard at work on the first pages.

If your payment failed, you'll have an opportunity to complete your purchase on the Backerkit. I'll send the link for that out when it is available.

Unicorn VERSUS Vampire Detective

Just this morning I launched my next book: Unicorn VERSUS Vampire Detective. This is the long-awaited crossover entry between my two series: Unicorn: Vampire Hunter and Vampire Detective in Space. It is also a standalone story, and you do not have to be familiar with either series to enjoy it.

If you'd like to check it out and support the project, click right here to head over to the Kickstarter. We have early bird prices available for the first 48 hours, so now is the time to jump on!

Here's a look at one of my favorite covers we have available for the book:

That cover is by Walter Ostlie, the artist behind the Ringo award winning comic series Metal Shark Bro! Walter has been a good friend of mine for years, and I was honored that he agreed to do a variant for this book.

Thanks for checking it out, and of course thank you for supporting Dragon Grit. I look forward to hearing what you think when we send out the digital files next week.

We did it!
8 months ago – Sat, Apr 06, 2024 at 07:01:55 PM

Hello! Last night the campaign ended, and set a new record for me. This campaign had the most backers I've ever had on a Caleb Palmquist campaign, and it was the most I've ever raised on a first issue.

Thank you so much for your support. :)

What's Next?

First, over the next week Kickstarter will attempt to collect payment from everyone who pledged. If your payment source failed, Kickstarter will prompt you to log in to attempt to fix it. You'll have a week to do this before KS will automatically drop your pledge. If that happens you can still pledge on the Backerkit pre-order page later on.

In two weeks I should receive the funds from this campaign. At that point I'll send out the Backerkit surveys (I got them all set up ahead of time - look at me being proactive), and publish the pre-order store via Backerkit.

On the Backerkit you'll be able to add any extra add-ons, including some add-ons that were not available during this campaign.

Around that time I will also place a print order for the comics themselves. I expect the whole printing process (including getting the comics shipped to my home) to take about four weeks, but I can't account for unexpected delays. As soon as I get the books I'll start shipping them out ASAP.

We have already begun production on issue 2, and it is our intention to get everything delivered and launch #2 as quickly as possible. However, we won't launch #2 until #1 is fulfilled (or at least as fulfilled as possible, excepting backers who don't complete their surveys).

If you have any questions about the timeline or anything else regarding the campaign, please let me know.

A personal note

This is the first book that my wife (Lorelei Jonason) and I wrote together. To me it is no coincidence that it is also my most successful first issue on Kickstarter. Lorelei is an incredibly talented writer, and has always been extremely supportive of my creative work. It just feels right that she is now part of that creative work. She's the best, and I hope y'all will see a lot more of her work in the future.

Both of us really believe in the book that we wrote, and we are so excited it has gotten such a great response. Along with Kay Woolhiser and Dave Lentz, we want to thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting this book.
